I decided to buy a Concept 2 rowing machine about 1 year ago. I made this choice because I was annoyed by having to pay so much whenever I went to the gym.
I had figured out that if I had never gone to the gym and instead bought my own home fitness equipment, I could have had an indoor rower, treadmill and exercise bike by about the time I quit. That was what drove me to start thinking about slowly building my own home gym.
Whats more, I only ever really used the fitness rowing machines, treadmills and occasionally the bikes so I really didn't feel like I was getting my monies worth. It would have made sense to stay at the gym if I used the swimming pool and more machines.
So I went online and did some research into buying an indoor rower. I read the features and reviews of dozens of rowing machines made my dozens of companies. By the end, I was interested by the Concept 2 model and decided that I would like to buy it.
And this is when I made a bit of an error. I headed straight over to amazon.com to buy my new rowing machine. I never even thought about buying a second hand one because I never used to do this.
A few days later I got my delivery and was unpacking my rower. It looked great and fitted in perfectly to where I wanted to put it. I jumped on and a had a quick go and was very impressed with it's results.
A few weeks went by and I was still loving my fitness machine. My friend even came by on Tuesdays to use it until he was so taken by it that he decided to buy one himself. However, he purchased a second hand one and for just a fraction of the price I paid for mine. Both were the same model age and condition. You could hardly tell them apart!
So the lesson I learnt from this is, don't just buy home fitness machines new! Look about and find one that is second hand or used but is still in great condition.
